This talk is about how Garth’s desire to promote health and healing in South Africa. It has taken him from the practice of clinical medicine to a different kind of treatment, namely: the use of story through TV, film and print !
Garth Japhet is a doctor, qualifying at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1987, with further qualifications in maternal and child health. He is also a Schwab fellow of the World Economic Forum (WEF), a Senior Ashoka fellow and on the WEF Global Agenda Council for social networking.
In 1992, he founded the NGO Soul City, which now works in 12 countries and consistently reaches over 35 million people. It communicates around all aspects of public health, in particular HIV/AIDS and has been evaluated as having significant impact. It has the largest youth movement in South Africa with 160 000 members in over 7500 clubs. www.soulcity.org.za
In 2002, Garth established Heartlines, which uses a values/moral lens through film and print stories, to tackle society’s big issues. www.heartlines.org.za
Both Soul City and Heartlines have won multiple prestigious awards for social change, development, communication and drama.

Plus R60 per meeting attended.
Guests: R100 per meeting limited to two meetings per annum.
Cancellations must be made by the Wednesday prior to the General Meeting otherwise you will be required to pay in full.
